In a blood donation camp organized at Chandigarh University, Gharuan in association with PGI, Chandigarh, GMCH-32, State Bank of India and Rotary Club Kharar, 706 students and staff members donated blood for the noble cause to save one’s life. Jasbir Singh, Assistant Commissioner (General), Mohali along with P.K.Pandhi, Regional Manager, SBI inaugurated the camp in which the students and staff of Chandigarh University participated with great enthusiasm. Vinay Rajput, President and Kamaldeep Singh Tiwana, Chairman, Rotary Club Kharar were also present on the occasion along with their team of volunteers to help team of Doctors from PGI and GMCH-32 Chandigarh.

Describing Blood Donation as the noble way to serve society, Jasbir Singh, Assistant Commissioner said that “It is encouraging that youth in such a huge number has come forward for blood donation as such activities at University level help in sensitizing today’s youth towards society needs”. It is also important that youth’s energy could be utilized in positive manner and donating blood is the best way to pay back to the society, he added.

NSS and NCC units of Chandigarh University, Gharuan along with its 300 volunteers had organized a mass awareness campaign for the blood donation camp making the students understand the importance of blood donation. A team of Doctors from PGI led by Dr. Suchet Sachdev, Assistant Professor and another team from led by Dr. Paramjeet Kaur, HoD, Blood Bank, GMCH-32, Chandigarh had made necessary arrangements in order to make the camp a big success.

While motivating the students, Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chancellor, Chandigarh University said that “Chandigarh requires 70,000 units of blood ever year out of which 85% of the demand is met through the blood collected through such volunteer donation camps which makes Chandigarh the city with best transfusion services”.
