The 9 member qawwali team of Chandigarh University has bagged 2nd runner-up position in the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) 1ST National Inter-University Qawwali Competition 2016 “Afreen-Bazm-E-Qawwali” organized at Jalandhar. More than 12 teams from different universities all over India participated in the National Inter-University Qawwali Competition which was included in the AIU Inter-University Competitions for the 1st time. The theme for National Competition 2016 was National Integration & Communal Harmony. The Chief Guest, Mr. Sampson David, Joint Secretary, AIU presided over the function and gave prizes to the winning teams in a glittering ceremony.

Team lead by Manish Jhangra, Assistant Director, Student Welfare, Chandigarh University included students Ajay Aggarwal, Akhilesh Sharma, Harvinder Singh, Gurmandeep Singh, Manjinder Singh, Gurbinder Singh, Summi Sokhe, Rahul Chauhan and Jagjot Singh enthralled the audience with their patriotic number “Sarfaroshi ki Tamnah jis dil mein nahi”. CU team was also awarded cash prize of Rs. 10,000 besides 2nd Runner-up trophy. Congratulating the winners, Mr. Sampson David said, “Qawwali is an enriched form of traditional music and it is really exciting to see young generation adopting this type of music at the time of rap and pop music”.
