One Gold & 2 Silver in Asian Power-lifting, Rowing and Taekwondo Championship
Students of Chandigarh University have brought laurels for India by winning One Gold, 2 Silver medals for the country at 3 Asian Championships. Representing India at Asian Power lifting Championship, Muskan Vatsas won Gold Medal for India in the +57 category while Vikas Siwach won silver at International Taekwondo Championship and Pritpal Singh won silver medal during Asian Rowing Championship.
Hosted by India, Asian Power Lifting Championship was organized by Asian Power Lifting Federation at Udaipur, Rajasthan in which sportsperson from more than22 countries participated. Participating for the first time, Muskan Vatsas won Gold by lifting a cumulative weight total of 325 kg beating Nuriddinova Diana from Kazakhstan who managed to bag silver by lifting 284.76 kg. Muskan managed to build a strong lead in the Squat round itself by lifting a weight of 127.5 kg, while she lifted 65 kg in the Bench Press round and 132.5 kg in the Deadlift round to consolidate her lead over the lifter from Kazakhstan.
Vikas Siwach won Silver for India in International Taekwondo Championship- Bhutan Open in which teams from SAARC countries, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Burma took part. After reaching the finals, Vikas lost the match to his Bhutanese counterpart while Vikas Siwach beat a player from Bangladesh to bag Silver medal. In yet another spectacular performance, Pritpal Singh won silver medal in the Asian Rowing Championship held at Thailand in the doubles mixed category.
While congratulating the players on their performance at International events, Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chancellor, Chandigarh University said that the students at Chandigarh University are encouraged at levels and more than 233 sports students have been given admission under the sports quota for which the University is giving 100% fee scholarship along with free hostel, diet and training facilities to the students.
