Ankur Saini & Savita Kumari honored with Award-of-Honor during First Sports Conclave
Punjab Government has awarded budding sports-persons of Chandigarh University who have won International Medals for the country in various sports. In a glittering ceremony held at Chandigarh, Punjab Cabinet Minister and former cricketer, Navjot Singh Sidhu gave Awards of Honor to Ankur Singh Saini and Savita Kumari during the first sports conclave. Ankur Singh Saini had won silver medal for India during the Commonwealth Taekwondo Championship 2017-18 in the 55 kg category which was organized at Montreal, Canada in which teams from more than 26 countries participated.
While Savita Kumari had won silver medal for the country in the 47 kg category during the Asian Powerlifting Championship 2018 which was organized by Asian Powerlifting Federation at Udaipur in Rajasthan. “I am delighted to have received the Award from Navjot Singh Sidhu who himself was one the best sports-persons in the field of cricket and had brought glory for the country in the game” said Ankur Singh Saini after receiving award.
Head of the Sports Department, Chandigarh University, Dr. Mahesh Jaitley accompanied the sports-persons during the award ceremony. “Giving importance to sports and with a mission to produce the next generation of sports-persons who can bring medals for the country, University has provided special facilities for the budding sports-persons around the country which includes 100% academic scholarships, free accommodation, state-of-the-art gymnasium and coaching facility from the experienced coaches in their respective sports” said Dr. Jaitely.
