Chandigarh University Gharuan lifts All India Inter-University Power-lifting (Women) Championship Trophy; CU Men’s Team finishes Runner-up

Bags 3 Gold 2 Silver & 2 Bronze in All India Inter-University Power-lifting (M&W) Championship 2017

Team Chandigarh University Gharuan has bagged the All India Inter-University Women’s Championship 2017 trophy in Power-lifting. Hosted at Punjab University, Chandigarh the 2017 edition of All India Inter-University Power-lifting Championship saw participation from more than 95 teams all-over India. The women’s Power-lifting team of Chandigarh University Gharuan won the overall championship by bagging 1 Gold 1 Silver & 2 Bronze medals in power-lifting while the men’s team bagged 2 Gold & 1 Silver to finish 1st runner-up in the event.

Savita Kumari won Gold in the 47kg category by lifting a total weight of 350 kg while Raj Kumari won Silver in the 52kg category of the event. Bronze medals were won by Manisha & Anu from Chandigarh University in the 57kg & 63kg category of the Power-lifting championship respectively. In the Men’s category, Gold medal was bagged by Sachin Dahiya in the 59kg category by lifting a total weight of 597.5kg, while Vijay Kumar won Gold Medal in the 66kg category of the event. Ashish bagged silver medal in the 74kg category by lifting a total weight of 665kg during the championship.

The Women’s team of Chandigarh University Gharuan won the over-all championship by bagging  50 points while with 35 points Mumbai University came 2nd and the host Punjab University Chandigarh with 33 points came 3rd during  All India Inter-University tournament. In the Men’s category, Punjabi University Patiala lifted the Championship trophy with 46 points, while team Chandigarh University Gharuan finished 2nd with 42 points followed by team from Mangalore University which finished 3rd with 41 points.

While congratulating the team on achieving this feat, Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chancellor, Chandigarh University announced 100% scholarships for the medal winners which included academic fee waiver, free hostel accommodation, diet and free training facility .
