University Merit Holders presented Gold Medals during the 2nd Convocation of Chandigarh University
“Humans are born Entrepreneurs and as the entrepreneur skills comes naturally to them, the youth of today should focus towards establishing themselves as job creators and not just job seekers” said Nobel Laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus. He was speaking during the 2nd Convocation ceremony of University School of Business at the campus of Chandigarh University, Gharuan. More than 550 students of MBA, BBA and B.Com (Hons.) were awarded degree during the Annual convocation held today. The University on this occasion also conferred upon its first degree of Doctor of Science (honoris causa) in the faculty of management to Noble Laureate Prof. (Dr.) Muhammad Yunus for his glorious achievements as a social entrepreneur and as an economist. Chandigarh University has become the 1st university in North India to have conferred Doctor of Science (honoris causa) to a noble laureate.
While delivering his convocation address Prof. Yunus said “Education should not only be confined to earn degrees but it should be able to motivate youth towards Entrepreneurship so that the problem of unemployment can be addressed in true sense”. Prof. Yunus who has more than 60 business ventures on his name has been named “One of the greatest entrepreneur of our time” by the Fortune Magazine. He stressed upon the need to guide youth to take Social Business as an emerging opportunity where the student can become successful and is also able to pay back what they have gained from the society.
Terming the youth power as the only source to address social and economic issues of their respective nations Prof. Yunus said “Innovative ideas which are capable to bring economic parity amongst the various sections of the society should be encouraged by the Governments by providing them necessary logistic, financial and moral support”.
Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chancellor Chandigarh University said “It is easy for Universities to churn out just the degree holders but it is difficult to make students employable and we at Chandigarh University are delighted to be successful in this endeavor”. Dr. R.S. Bawa Vice- Chancellor, Dr. B.S. Sohi, Pro V.C. And Dr. Suryavanshi, Executive Director, University School of Business were present on the occasion.
