Shashi Chopra from Chandigarh University wins silver at 2nd Senior Women National Boxing Championship
Ace Indian boxer & Women’s Youth World Boxing gold medalist Shashi Chopra from Chandigarh University, came strongly in the 2nd Senior Women National Boxing Championship 2017-18 organized by Indian Boxing Federation at Rohtak. Representing Haryana, boxer from Chandigarh University won silver medal in the 54-57 kg featherweight category of the championship. More than 30 teams all over India participated during the competition.
Shashi Chopra continued her dominance during the tournament and beat Dimple Tanwar from Rajasthan in the quarter final, while she beat Sonia from Andhra Pardesh in her semifinal bout. The Inter-University best boxer awardee, Chopra overpowered her opponents with her straight-punching style, ring coverage and the boxer showcased her class which has been a revelation through-out the tournament. However in the finals, Shashi Chopra went down fighting (5-0) Sonia Lather, boxer from Railways who won gold medal, while Shashi Chopra and had to satisfy with silver medal. Sonia & Sanda Rana bagged a joint third position and won bronze medal in the tournament.
Shashi Chopra who aspires to be another Mary Kom for India, continued her exemplary performance in number of International and National Boxing Championships and had won many medals for the country which included Gold at 3rd International Women Youth Boxing Tournament, Bulgaria, Gold at AIBA Youth Women World Boxing Championship 2017, Gold at All India Inter-University Women Boxing Championship 2017 and Silver Medal at 31st International Ahmet Cormet tournament, Instnbul.
