Bags 3 Gold & 1 Bronze to lift Championship Trophy
Team Chandigarh University has bagged the All India Inter-University Men’s Championship trophy in Weightlifting & Power-lifting. Hosted by Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, the 2016 edition of All India Inter-University Weightlifting & Power-lifting Championship saw participation from more than 125 teams all-over India. Chandigarh University won the overall championship by bagging 2 Gold & 1 Bronze in weightlifting and 1 Gold in power-lifting event.
Manjeet Singh won Gold in the 85kg category while Vishal Solanki won Gold in the 105 category of the weightlifting event. Yet another student from Chandigarh University won Bronze medal in the 94kg category of the Weightlifting championship. The Gold medal in the Power-lifting championship was bagged by Asish Ojha in the 93kg category. Team Chandigarh University won the over-all championship by bagging 174 points while with 167 points Punjabi University won 1st runner-up and GNDU Amritsar with 145 points bagged the 2nd runner-up position the Inter-University tournament.
While congratulating the team on achieving this feat, Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chancellor, Chandigarh University said that the students at Chandigarh University are encouraged at levels and more than 233 sports students have been given admission under the sports quota for which the University is giving 100% fee scholarship along with free hostel, diet and training facilities to the students.
