The Wrestling team of Chandigarh University Gharuan has bagged 2 Medals (1 Gold, 1 Bronze) during the recently concluded All India Inter-University Wrestling Championship 2017 organized at the Sports Complex, MDU Rohtak. Teams from more than 105 Universities all over India participated in the All India Inter-University Wrestling Championship 2017. In the Men category of events, Ranjeet Kamboj won Gold Medal in the 60 kg (Greco Roman) category, while Narinder Singh won Bronze Medal in the 97 kg (Free Style) category.
Ranjeet Kamboj, CU won gold by beating Shekhar from Bundelkhan University, Jhansi with a final score of 10-4 in the finals, while Narinder Singh won Bronze Medal by beating Suresh Chaudhary from SGGU Godhra, Gujrat with a final score of 8-4. Earlier during the tournament Ranjeet Kamboj beat Ramesh from MDU, Rohtak with a score of 6-3 in the semifinal match. “Wrestler Sushil Kumar is my idol and I want to represent India at Commonwealth games & Olympics and win medals for my country” said Ranjeet Kamboj.
While congratulating the winners on their performance, Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chancellor, Chandigarh University said that the students at Chandigarh University are encouraged at levels and more than 233 sports students have been given admission under the sports quota for which the University is giving 100% fee scholarship along with free hostel, diet and training facilities to the students.
