University of Mumbai & Banasthali Vidyapith jointly lifts Overall Trophy of 34th National Youth Festival at Chandigarh University

Host Chandigarh University Gharuan comes close runner up and lifts overall theatre trophy   


The 34th National Youth festival today ended with the glittering award ceremony to the winners of the 27 categories of theatre, literary, music, dance, and fine arts competitions at the campus of Chandigarh University, Gharuan. Team from University of Mumbai and Banasthali Vidyapeeth, Rajasthan jointly lifted the overall trophy, while the team of host Chandigarh University finished 1st runner-up. Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar were declared 2nd runner-up on the final day of the 34th National Youth Festival.

Chandigarh University one-act play “Knock it down” featuring the life of Thomas Edison bagged the first position in the Theatre Category while team from Kurukshetra University and Manglore University, Karnatka finished second in the event. The overall Champions, University of Mumbai bagged overall trophy as they won first position in Skit, Western Music Instrumental, Western Group Song, Folk Orchestra, Classical Dance and Collage Making while Banasthali Vidhyapeeth, Rajasthan won the position in Folk Dances, Folk Orchestra, Classical Instrumental, Classical Dance and Indian Group Song.   Team CU bagged runner-up position as they won first position in Western Group Song, Indian Group Song, Mimicry and on-the-spot photography competition.

“Youth festivals are the breeder ground for young talent and it is a platform where the young artists are given an opportunity to showcase their talent to the world”, said Joint secretary, Association of Indian Universities, Baljit Singh Sekhon.  Chancellor Chandigarh University, Satnam Singh Sandhu, congratulated the winning teams and assured the AIU officials of CU’s continuous support to encourage young talent to come forward and develop their overall personality. Bollywood and Theatre Artist, Yashpal Sharma also graced the occasion with his presence.

Runner-up: Chandigarh University, Gharuan

2nd Runner-up: GNDU, Amritsar
