Ankur Saini a BA first year student from Chandigarh University has made India proud by winning silver medal for the country in the Common Wealth Taekwondo Championship-2017 held at Complexe Sportif Claude-Robillard, Montreal city of Canada. Teams from more than 24 commonwealth nations taking part, Ankit Saini won the medal in the under 55 KG category of the tournament. Ankit Saini won his quarter-final match comfortably (17-7) against the James Hopes from Australia, while continuing his winning streak, he won his semi-final match against Michael Honer from the host country, Canada (15-4). In his final match, Ankit Saini gave a tough fight to Donio Amber from Trinidad and Tobago by drawing the match (12-12). But the player from Trinidad and Tobago went on to beat Ankit in the extra time by winning the Golden Point.
While congratulating Ankit Saini, for his performance at Commonwealth Taekwondo Championship 2017, Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chancellor, Chandigarh University said that “It is a proud moment for us that one of our student has not only represented India at International Sporting Tournament but also has won medal for the country”. The Chancellor announced 100% fee scholarship along with free hostel, diet and training facility to Ankit Saini for his brilliance performance.
