Chandigarh University announces Dhyan Chand Sports Scholarship worth 2 crores for players 


In a glittering ceremony, Punjab Government honored sports achievers and medal winners of Chandigarh University on the occasion of National Sports Day. More than 180 medal winners who have represented India at International Championships and national players who have represented Punjab and University in their respective sports were honored by the Sports Minister Punjab, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi along with Additional Chief Secretary, Sanjay Kumar (IAS). The university players have won 86 National and International medals in Boxing, Wrestling, Kick Boxing, Weight-Lifting, Power-lifting, Wu-Shu, Taekwondo, Roll Ball, American Football and Gatka Championships. 



The felicitation ceremony was organized the mark the 114th birth anniversary of Hockey Legendary Player, Dhyan Chand which is also celebrated as National Sports Day. On the occasion, Chandigarh University announced Dhyan Chand Sports Scholarship Scheme under which 200 seats across the courses offered by university. Scholarship worth Rs. 2 crores would be disbursed every year to prominent sports persons who would be taking admission to university under sports category.    

Punjab Government along with Chandigarh University today gave Pride of India Awards to prominent players, Arjun Awardees, Dronacharya Awardees from Punjab in state level function held at university campus. Those awarded included Hockey Player & Arjun Awardee Charanjeet Singh, Arjun Awardee & Wrestler Tara Singh, Dronacharya Awardee and Boxer Gurbaksh Singh, Athlete & Dronacharya Awardee Sukhdev Singh and Nirpjeet Singh an Arjun Awardee in Volleyball.

 While congratulating the sports achievers of Chandigarh University, Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chancellor, CU said, “The University is doing all efforts to felicitate the next generation of sports-persons who could be the future medal winners for the country”. The University has kept 200 seats reserved for the sports achievers and more than 2 crores of scholarship would be provided under Dhyan Chand Scholarship Scheme in which 100% academic fee waiver, hostel fee waiver, diet charges and free of cost coaching would be offered to the students.
