CU makes dream debut in QS Asia University Rankings, notches up top places in NIRF-2021, other prestigious rankings

 

 

MOHALI: For any educational institution, rankings at the national and international level are an indicator of its academic model, quality of teaching, research work, industry exposure and job placements of its students, ultimately acting as a guide in helping the young minds to decide the best of institutions for their higher studies.



Continuing its rich legacy of providing quality and inclusive higher education, Chandigarh University, Gharuan continued its march on the pedestal of excellence, as it not only improved its position in various prestigious rankings this year, but has also managed to make it to the list of top educational institutions, nationally and internationally.

In the year 2021, Chandigarh University achieved top positions in a number of prestigious and comprehensive national and international level rankings, riding strong on its robust education model, research work, international and industry tie-ups, student placements, and sports and cultural excellence.

Speaking about the strong performance of the institution, Dr R S Bawa, Pro-Chancellor, Chandigarh University, said that the University has adopted an international and up-to-date academic model, as a result of which the students and faculty of the University have been able to make a distinguished mark in every field, leading to its comprehensive success.

Informing about the rankings achieved during the year 2021, Dr Bawa said that in the QS Asia Ranking-2022 for Educational Institutions of Asia released by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the University has been ranked among the top 280 Universities out of total 15812 Universities in Asia.

In what could only be defined as a dream debut, Chandigarh University in a decade of its existense became the youngest University, not only in India but in the entire Asia, to make it into QS Asia Universities Rankings in its very first attempt, in almost a decade. The rank band of 271-280 was also the best debut by any Indian private university in QS Asia Universities Rankings. The University has been ranked 214 for Academic Reputation based on Degree Value in Job Market, while Chandigarh University has been ranked 86th across Asia under Employer Reputation Category.

Dr Bawa informed that Chandigarh University has secured overall 35th rank among 119 universities (public-private) in India that have achieved QS Asia University Rankings, while the varsity was ranked 7th among private universities in India.

“Chandigarh University ranks 223rd in the International Student Category in the QS Asia University Rankings and ranks among the top 1.5 percent of universities in Asia, while the university has been ranked first among private universities in India in the rankings released for Best Employability,” he added.

QS University Rankings is an annual publication of university rankings approved by the International Ranking Expert Group (IREG), and is viewed as one of the three most-widely read university rankings in the world, making it a crucial factor for students across the globe in deciding their universities.

Giving further details, Dr Bawa said that Chandigarh University has also secured 52nd rank in the country at the university level in the NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) rankings released by the Union Ministry of Education for the year 2021.

As a leading institution in the country, Chandigarh University ranked first among private universities in the state and fourth among universities in North India, while it ranked 77th in the country, 5th in Punjab and 6th in North India in the overall rankings. Apart from this, Chandigarh University has risen from 84th rank to 61st rank with a score of 45.01 in engineering field and has been ranked number one in the Tricity, he said.

He said that four engineering courses of the University have been recognized by the National Accreditation Board (NBA) for their excellent and quality services in the field of technical education. It may be mentioned that Chandigarh University is the only private university in Punjab that offers engineering and management courses accredited by the NBA.

Speaking about the 'Hansa Research Survey-2021' conducted at the university level by the country's top magazine 'The Week', Chandigarh University, Gharuan has also been included among the top universities of India. As per this survey, Chandigarh University was ranked among the top 7 private universities of the country, first among the emerging universities of the country and second among the private universities of North India, besides securing overall 36th rank among the government and non-government universities across the country.

Dr Bawa informed that Chandigarh University has also secured 16th rank among private universities at All India level with excellent performance in the University Rankings released by top ranking agency India Today and MDRA for the year 2021. Apart from this, in the field of research and innovation, Chandigarh University has continued to be the top university across the country to file the highest number of patents in the last three years, while securing the third rank in terms of patent grants.

“Apart from this, Chandigarh University got the 5th rank across the country in the All India Best Private University Rankings under the ranking released by the country's leading magazine Outlook for the year 2021. The university has secured first rank among private universities of North India and Punjab, and second position among private universities in India providing world class infrastructure and facilities in these rankings,” he added.

Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chancellor Chandigarh University, speaking on the top ranks secured by the varsity in various prestigious rankings over the year, said, "It has become imperative for an aspiring student to find the right university, which not only provides him a meaningful education but also helps in increasing his employability. The Chancellor gave the credit for this huge success to all the stakeholders including students, faculty, alumni and industry who have contributed through their efforts to make Chandigarh University a Centre-of-Excellence in Higher Education, matching and even bettering the global standards.

He informed that a special strategic draft has been prepared for further improvement of these rankings in future and efforts are being made by the University with a commitment to secure the top positions in the world-class rankings in the coming years as well.

"With our first-rate performance in these rankings, the responsibility of the varsity has increased manifold, to not only perform well in National & International Academic Rankings but also to contribute in the exercise of Nation Building by preparing the next generation professionals for the Industry," he added.
