CU students selected set to represent India in Asian Youth TT Championship 2023 in Doha

 

Two Chandigarh University (CU) students brought laurels to the country by winning two bronze medals in Table Tennis during the World Table Tennis (WTT) Youth Contender 2023 that was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Sunday.



The international tournament in which the students from across the world participated in table tennis competitions was held from 28th June to 1 July. The students from CU- Divyansh Srivastava and Jash Amit Modi of BA- competed in Under 19 Mixed Doubles and Under 19 Boys-Singles, respectively- won bronze medals in respective categories.

During WTT Youth Contender 2023 in Brazil, Divyansh Srivastava won the Round of 32 against Sweden with a 3-0 score followed by win in the Round of 16 against Brazil with 3-2 score. He went on to play the Semi-finals by winning the Quarterfinals against Chile with 3-0 score. Divyansh won a Bronze against his Indian counterparts with a 0-3 score.



On the other hand, Jash Modi played six matches during the championship in the U-19 Boys- Single category, including the two qualifying matches against Brazil and Chile with a 3-0 score, respectively. In the Round of 16, Jash scored 3-0 against Brazil followed by 3-0 score in the Round of 32 as well. Before moving to the Semi-finals, he scored 3-0 against Peru in the Quarterfinals. Jash put up a tough contest against his Indian counterpart in the Semi-finals and won a bronze medal with a score of 3-1.

Both Divyansh and Jash Modi expressed their gratitude towards Chandigarh University for the support and guidance that it offers. They said, “Chandigarh University emphasises on sports and encourages the students to pursue career in this field. Support from the university enables the students to pursue higher education along with being able to participate in different national and international events and bring laurels home. The university also offers monthly sponsorship of Rs. 4500 along with additional financial support to students as a part of appreciation.”

This comes after CU students also won 16 medals in a recently held Khelo India Games 2023 across various games. After making a mark in WTT Youth Contender 2023 at Brazil, both the CU students are now set to represent India at the 27th Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship 2023 which will be held in Doha from July 17 to 22.
