Chandigarh University has been officially announced as the North Zone Partner for the upcoming WAFX – WAVES VFX Competition 2025, India’s premier platform to identify and honour emerging talent in the field of Visual Effects (VFX). This partnership cements CU’s commitment to promoting industry-aligned education and fostering creativity at a national level.
The competition marks a groundbreaking collaboration between the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (I&B) and ABAI as part of the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) — a prestigious event scheduled to be held in New Delhi in February 2025. As the headline event, the WAVES VFX Competition also launches the inaugural edition of “Create in India – Season 1”, a visionary initiative aimed at fueling India’s creative economy.
Open to students, amateurs, and professionals, the competition provides a unique platform to showcase VFX artistry through a structured, multi-stage process. The journey begins with an online qualifier, where over 2000 entries are anticipated. A pre-selection jury will choose the top 10 students and 10 professionals from each zone to move on to the zonal competitions.
Winners of the zonal rounds will advance to the Grand Finale, which will take the form of a 24-hour VFX Marathon Challenge at the WAVES Summit. Finalists will compete in front of a Grand Jury comprising National Award-winning VFX Supervisors, vying for the prestigious titles of Best Student VFX Artist and Best Professional VFX Artist.
As North Zone partner, Chandigarh University will play a pivotal role in organizing the regional round, offering students access to mentorship, masterclasses, and networking opportunities with industry leaders. This collaboration not only highlights CU’s leadership in media and creative arts education but also reaffirms its position as a hub for next-generation talent development.
