Chandigarh University Marks World Physiotherapy Day, Highlights Growing Role of Physiotherapy in Sports, Rehabilitation and Healthcare
Chandigarh University marked World Physiotherapy Day with a programme highlighting the growing significance of physiotherapy in strengthening healthcare, preventing diseases, accelerating rehabilitation and enabling individuals to regain mobility and quality of life. The event brought together distinguished healthcare professionals, sports personalities, academicians, physiotherapy experts and students to highlight the expanding role of physiotherapists across clinical care, sports, preventive healthcare and rehabilitation. With the theme ‘cardiovascular disease and Stroke: The Role of Physiotherapy and Physical Activity in Prevention, Management and Rehabilitation, the event primarily focused on highlighting the importance of early intervention, physical activity and multidisciplinary care in preventing disease, improving recovery and enhancing quality of life.
The programme was graced by Navnita Gautam, a renowned Athletic Therapist for RCB (Royal Challengers’ Bengaluru) Men’s and Women’s cricket teams in IPL (Indian Premiere League), Dr Mehak Makkar, Senior Consultant and HOD of Physiotherapy at Cocoon Hospital, Joydeep Das Gupta, Director India Jeevasa USA Institute of Longevity Research San Diego and Dr Asees Paul Singh, Cardiologist, My Hospital among other distinguished guests, faculty members and students who shared insights into the evolving dimensions of physiotherapy and its growing relevance in modern healthcare and sports.
The programme focused on the increasing integration of evidence-based practice, technology and specialized rehabilitation techniques into physiotherapy. The sessions and panel discussion featured expert insights on how physiotherapy, physical activity, nutrition and multidisciplinary care can contribute to the prevention, management and rehabilitation of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
With advancements in sports medicine, neurological rehabilitation, musculoskeletal care, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and geriatric care, the profession is increasingly contributing to healthcare beyond traditional clinical settings.
