Nationwide ‘Drug Free India’ campaign launched at Chandigarh University

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, Kapil Sharma, Rapper Badshah, Punjabi Legend Singer Gurdas Mann launches the fight against drugs from the campus of Chandigarh University

More than 30,000 students takes pledge “Na Karunga Na Karne Dunga” along with the spiritual guru


“Every youth has a creative element in them and it is necessary to identify the individual creative skills so as to utilize our full energy towards improving those skills rather than indulging in drugs” said the spiritual guru Shri Shri Ravi Shankar. The founder of Art of Living was joined by Punjab Governor, VP Singh Badnore, Bollywood Actor Sanjay Dutt, Stand-up Comedian Kapil Sharma, Punjabi Singing Legend Gurdas Mann and Bollywood Rapper Badshah to launch the nationwide “Drug Free India” campaign at the campus of Chandigarh University, Gharuan. More than 30,000 university students joined the campaign and took a pledge “Na Karunga Na Karne Dunga” along with students of 12,000 schools and colleges who joined the launch ceremony through live streaming. “Drug Free Campaign” has been appreciated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he tweeted and congratulated the joint efforts of Chandigarh University and Art of Living Foundation to capitalize on youth power and saving the life of the future of India.


Many bollywood stars which include Aamir Khan, Karan Johar, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha have also extended their support for the campaign. “Punjab has been pioneer in spearheading national movements like Green Revolution and it is once again the state of Punjab which is taking the lead in a fight against drugs today” said Punjab Governor, V.P. Singh Badnore. While narrating his personal experience, Bollywood actor, Sanjay Dutt said, “The days when I was engulfed in this drugs menace has been the worst days of my life & I have personally lost many things in my life due to the problem”. Sanjay Dutt appealed the youth to utilize their age of youth to make a better career & future which happens to be the best way to refrain oneself from such dreadful activities such as consuming drugs.


 Famous stand-up comedian Kapil Sharma addressed the youth and gave call to join hands in making the land of Punjab once again prosperous which it used to be in ancient history. “When warriors from Punjab could fight the conquerors or invaders and protect our motherland in history then it is the duty of the youth today to wage a war against the menace of drugs” said Kapil Sharma.      


 “The sacred land of Gharuan has always been a powerful symbol in the history as the tenth guru Guru Gobind Singh had utilized the utensils made by craftsman of this village during the first baptized ceremony at Anandpur Sahib to fight the maltreatment of the mughal rulers and today once again the land of Gharuan is playing a special role in initiating the national fight against drugs” said Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chancellor, Chandigarh University.
