Four teams from Chandigarh University
emerge winners at grand finale of Smart India Hackathon-2022
CU student beats hundreds of teams to
solve problems by MHA, Jal Shakti Ministry, ISRO, Madhya Pradesh Police
Among these, the first team, comprising of
Chandigarh university’s CSE department students including Lokesh, Talib,
Gursimran, Malika, Dolly, and Team leader Rajat won First Prize at the SIH’s
grand finale held at IIT Kanpur for providing solution to the problem statement
titled 'Crime prediction model/ tool for mapping hotspots' given by ministry of
Home Affairs. Team Agrocon, comprising of Chandigarh university’s CSE
department students including Atul, Mahak Saxena, Bhuvan Sharma, Shubham, Preeti
Lakshmi, and Team leader Yogendra Singh, along with mentor Ankita Sharma won
First Prize at the SIH’s grand finale held at Sri Venkateswara College of
Engineering, Andhra Pradesh. Around 900 students from 150 teams had submitted
proposals for different problems provided by the union Ministry of Jal Shakti
for National Jal Shakti Mission, of which six teams were shortlisted for final
round, where CU’s Team Agrocon won the first prize for providing solution to
the problem statement titled ‘Android app for predicting natural occurrence’ to
find the occurrence of natural disaster and act as a portal between farmers and
government.
Likewise, Team Orions from Chandigarh
University comprising of Mocktic joshi, Aniket Thakre, Isha Verma, Divyanshu
Dobriyal, Prashant Pandey, and Team leader Siddhant Bhardwaj won First Prize at
the SIH’s grand finale held at Dr B C Roy Engineering College, Durgapur, West
Bengal for providing solution to the problem of Madhya Pradesh Police titled
‘Predictive analytic solutions using AI’. A total of 247 teams had participated
wherein 25 teams made it to the finals. Team Orions emerged as the winners.
Both Team Agrocon and Team Orions were awarded with the 1 Lakh rupee cash
prize.
Another team of Chandigarh University’s ECE
department-Shoonya, led by Subhadeep Chatterjee and comprising of Adwait,
Gautam, Mayank, Safeer, and Shruti, and mentored by Jeba Shiney O and Dhiraj
Kumar Singh won Third Prize at SIH’s grand finale at Gujarat Technological
University, Ahmedabad. A total of 240 teams participated in the competition,
out of which 34 teams were shortlisted for the final round, where Team Shoonya
bagged third spot for providing solution to the ISRO’s problem statement
titled: ‘Water quality from Satellite Images’. Their application and algorithm
was accepted and appreciated by ISRO which will give spatial and temporal water
quality of entire India and is being considered by ISRO in the LULC part of
their BHUVAN portal.
Congratulating the students for this glorious
achievement, Chandigarh University Pro-Chancellor Dr R S Bawa said that it is a
matter of pride for the university that our students and their mentors proved
their mettle at the national stage.
In this year’s edition, the SIH had offered 476
problem statements received from 62 organizations. More than 15000 students
from 2033 winner teams of campus level hackathons organized under SIH-2022,
participated in this year’s SIH grand finale at national level, at various
assigned nodal centers.
