Chancellor Chandigarh University meets the Khelo India University Games medal winners, after they return back

Chandigarh University (CU) Chancellor Satnam Singh Sandhu met the University students who recently won medals during this year’s edition of Khelo India University Games - 2023 which concluded recently in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.



The students who were part of CU’s contingent at the Khelo India University games also expressed pleasure over meeting the chancellor, who appreciated them for the laurels they brought to the University and assured all kinds of support from the University in the future. The Khelo India University Games (KIUG) is an inter-university meet that is a part of the Khelo India initiative of the Government of India. This time it was the third edition of Khelo India University Games.

 

Contributing to Indian Government’s Khelo India initiative, focused on promoting grassroots sports and identifying young talents from across the country, Chandigarh University secured 7 Gold medals with one each in Athletics, Fencing, Rowing, Weightlifting, and Wrestling. The university bagged 5 Silver – one each in Kabaddi, Rowing, Swimming, Table Tennis, and Wrestling – and 4 Bronze, including 2 in Rowing and one each in Weightlifting and Wrestling. CU participated in eleven games with a contingent of 82 students who made the mark through their incredible performance in various competitions at the grand stage.

 

The objective of this khelo India University Games 2023 is to provide opportunities to young sportspersons from all over India to showcase their talents so that they can represent the country on the international platform in the future. A few notable individuals who are currently representing India internationally are Philip Maheshwaran (in athletics), Komalika Bari (in archery), Manu Bhaker (in shooting), Arshdeep Singh (in hockey), L. Dhanush, Jeremy Lalrinnunga, Dnyaneshwari Yadav, Harshada Garuda, and M. Martina Devi (in weightlifting).
