Chandigarh University Reclaims Top Spot Among Private Indian Universities in QS Asia Rankings 2025

Chandigarh — In the latest QS Asia University Rankings for 2025, Chandigarh University (CU) has reclaimed its title as India’s No. 1 private university, underscoring its rise in quality education and global competitiveness. Moving up 29 positions from last year, CU has achieved a ranking of 120 among Asian institutions, placing it within the prestigious top 2% of higher educational institutions (HEIs) across the continent.

India’s presence in the QS rankings has reached an all-time high, now surpassing both China and Japan in university representation. The 2025 rankings feature 162 Indian institutions, including 21 new entrants, compared to 145 from China and 105 from Japan. This surge in representation highlights the country’s growing focus on enhancing its educational standards, research, and global outreach.

The rankings, conducted by the London-based analytics firm QS, evaluated 6,278 universities across 25 Asian nations based on eleven performance indicators. These included metrics such as Employer Reputation, International Faculty Ratio, International Research Network, and Academic Reputation, among others.


Chandigarh University’s Remarkable Growth

Chandigarh University’s consistent rise is a testament to its commitment to excellence. The institution advanced from 149th in 2024 to 120th this year, and it now ranks first among private universities in India. In the overall Indian context, CU stands at 11th place, ahead of several prestigious institutions like IITs and NITs. The university’s swift ascent has been particularly significant as it is the youngest university in India to reach such a prominent position among both public and private universities in the country.

Beyond national borders, CU has also outpaced many international counterparts, including institutions from countries like China, Japan, and South Korea. CU’s comprehensive approach to education is reflected in its high scores across the QS indicators, including a stellar score of 90.5 in Employer Reputation, which showcases the industry’s recognition of CU’s graduates as highly employable and skilled professionals.

India’s lead in the QS Asia University Rankings is a signal of the country’s increasing prominence in the field of higher education. As Indian institutions enhance their global research networks and attract a diverse pool of faculty and students, they are establishing themselves as major players on the international stage. The rankings illustrate India’s commitment to delivering high-quality education that meets global standards, with institutions prioritizing areas such as faculty-student ratios, academic and employer reputation, and research impact.

Among the 162 Indian institutions in the QS rankings, Chandigarh University’s performance stands out. The university’s international reach is evident from its high scores in categories such as International Faculty Ratio (72.4) and International Research Network (55.9), reflecting CU’s emphasis on building a global academic community. CU also achieved notable ratings in Academic Reputation (54.2) and Faculty Student Ratio (52.9), underscoring its dedication to providing quality education with personalized support.
